Each month, we spotlight a fellow event vendor that can help shed some insight and give you some tips that will help enhance your event. Our first spotlight of 2019 is Photographer MIKE STREETER. I’ve known Mike for a few years now; he’s a friendly, social and sensitive soul who loves to laugh. He’s a super creative photographer (with an incredible eye) who has over 500 weddings under his belt. Oh…did I mention that Optimus prime is his Role Model? Yeah, I thought that was pretty cool too. I spoke with Mike and he gave some wedding tips from a photographer’s point-of-view.
What common mistakes do you see couples making?
MS: One of the worst mistakes I often see made is when couples delegate the majority of their budget toward the material aspect of their wedding. Rather than to the overall atmosphere and feel of their day. Cutting back on entertainment, logistics and photo/video is going to be the one thing that comes back to haunt you as a bride and groom.
What is the best tip you can give to couples planning their wedding?
MS: Research heavily. Read reviews reviews reviews. Make sure you’re comfortable with the decisions you make.
Couples need to know THIS about photographers…
MS: Being a great photographer is 50% skill/style and 50% personality. You can hire a photographer that takes the most beautiful photos you’ve ever seen. But if you can’t get along for a full day the quality and creativity will be sacrificed.
What questions should couples be asking their photographer that they don’t know to ask?
What your best piece of advice for couples planning a wedding?
MS: See question 2 LOL.
What’s the most unusual wedding you ever did?
MS: Halloween/Heavy metal theme. I wouldn’t say it was “unusual” I’d be more inclined to say it was “unconventional” it was also amazing.
What was the most memorable wedding you ever worked, and why?
MS: Wow. I’ve done so many. Over 500. I did one in Sept 2017 in Niagara. The ceremony was a 40 min off-trail hike into the side of the Niagara River to a rocky waterfall. Even the bride had to hike it in her wedding attire.
